We represent competitive engineering design team from the University of Waterloo, proudly participating in the Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race (GNCTR). Since the competition began in 1974, we have been pushing the boundaries of engineering innovation.
Our team consists of diverse engineering disciplines working together to design, build, and race concrete toboggans. From Civil to Mechanical Engineering, and everything in between, we bring together students passionate about hands-on engineering challenges.
We design, construct, and race a five-person toboggan whose sliding surface is made entirely of concrete. Our team works year-round to perfect every aspect of our toboggan, from the concrete mix design to the steering and braking systems.
Each year brings new challenges as we strive to create the fastest, most innovative toboggan possible. We conduct extensive testing, refine our designs, and push the limits of what's possible with concrete as a sliding surface.
February 4-8th 2026
Hosted by the University of Western Ontario
The Great Northern Concrete Toboggan Race is Canada's oldest and largest engineering student competition. Teams from across the nation gather to compete in technical presentation, displays, and of course - the races!
